Eight years ago on July 20, I discovered an ad on the Internet for La Bella Baskets. I had found a similar classified ad two times earlier in the year, but being both a mild procrastinator and cautiously optimistic person, I decided to not pursue the opportunity until it presented itself a third time. I generally follow a rule of three, so in keeping with this philosophy, I considered it with greater interest and did a little research into this unfamiliar direct selling company.
I had years of direct sales experience fresh out of high school starting with Avon,Products in 1982, and Mary Kay Cosmetics in 1985, before the Internet came of age. I worked in retail Custom Interior Design products at four design firms in two states during and after my college years before my children were born. I accompanied each of my four children through thirteen years of door to door sales of Boy Scout Popcorn and Girl Scout Cookies .and was the " BSA Popcorn Kernel " for our troop for a least six of those years. Three of my four children have pursued careers in the areas of Business Development or Management with two specializing in Marketing. The entrepreneurial spirit flows strongly through my family genes on both ancestral sides!
The challenge for me approaching forty-seven years young would be to apply my retail sales experience and passion for art and design with online marketing. I do love a good challenge and my first two years in business proved to be exactly that with a huge learning curve! My patience and persistence yielded many newly acquired skills in the areas of networking and advertising on all of the main social media channels, website design, video production and blogging. Drawing it mechanically with my drafting tools would have been faster and easier to me in the beginning stages as I struggled to make my older brain convert knowledge and artistic skills into a digital medium instead of paper. It's absolutely amazing how the brain adapts and retains information, and I gave mine quite a work out!
Eight years later, I look back with great satisfaction over the tremendous effort that I have invested into my gift business. I still have much to learn as technology is constantly changing,, but i overcame the biggest hurdle, fear of failure. My goal was to operate my own gift business from home and be available for my family. God has provided me with the gifts of creativity, passion, energy and drive. My family has provided me with patience, countless technology lessons and emotional support. La Bella Baskets has provided me with the opportunity, beautiful gifts, marketing tools and team support.
